Justified is a drama on FX about Raylan Givens, a tough U.S. Marshal enforcing his own brand of justice in his hometown of Harlan, Kentucky. The series is set in Lexington and in the Appalachian mountains area of eastern Kentucky, specifically in and around Harlan.

– JUSTIFIED – DIRECTION 01 –

These are the designs that the client went with, a modified version of direction 2 below. Originally I wanted to do a shoot with the talent based on the idea of spin the bottle but with a gun instead of a bottle. It was to speak to the love triangle between Raylan, Boyd and Ava. Working with the client brought us to a more graphic direction.

– JUSTIFIED – DIRECTION 02 –

This is the direction I originally wanted to have the shoot for. The concept was centered around the idea of spin the bottle, only the bottle would be replaced with a gun. I did the photography for these boards as well using myself as a stand in for the talent.

– JUSTIFIED – DIRECTION 03 –

This direction was inspired by the phrase “oil and water don’t mix”.

– JUSTIFIED – DIRECTION 04 –

With this direction I wanted to give the feeling of running from something, trying to escape.

– JUSTIFIED – DIRECTION 05 –

For this direction I just really wanted to do something hands on. I wanted to do some collage. All the type was designed, printed out and taped back together. I scanned in the new collage type and used that in the design.

– JUSTIFIED – DIRECTION 06 –

This direction was inspired by the phrase “where there’s smoke there’s fire”. I also worked in some film elements that have been used in Justified design packages before.
